Frequently Asked Questions

(1) How much do storage units cost a month?

The monthly cost of a self-storage unit depends primarily on two factors: size and features (like climate control).

While prices can vary by location, here are some general estimates for Central Illinois:

  • Small Units (e.g., 5x5, 5x10): Typically range from $50 to $90 per month. These are perfect for boxes, seasonal items, or the contents of a dorm room.
  • Medium Units (e.g., 10x10, 10x15): Often range from $90 to $160 per month. A 10x10 is the most popular size and can usually hold the contents of a one- or two-bedroom apartment.
  • Large Units (e.g., 10x20, 10x30): Can range from $160 to $300+ per month. These are large enough to store the contents of a 3-4 bedroom house or even a car.
Climate-controlled units typically cost 25-50% more than standard units but offer vital protection against extreme Illinois humidity, heat, and cold, which is essential for items like wood furniture, electronics, and documents.

Our Answer: Prices are specific to each of our Metamora, Rock Falls, and Farmington facilities. For the most accurate, up-to-the-minute pricing, please call your nearest location, and our manager will be happy to find the perfect, most cost-effective unit for your needs.

(2) What's the average cost to store a boat?

The cost to store a boat varies widely based on its length and the type of storage you choose.

  • Uncovered Outdoor Parking: This is the most affordable option. Depending on the boat's length, this can range from $50 to $150 per month.
  • Covered Outdoor Parking: This offers protection from rain, snow, and direct sun and typically costs more, from $100 to $250 per month.
  • Indoor Storage: This provides the best protection from all elements and security risks. Costs can range from $150 to $450+ per month, depending on the size of the boat and the facility.
Our Answer: We offer dedicated spaces for boats and other vehicles. To give you a precise quote, we just need to know the total length of your boat (including the trailer). Please contact our office, and we can check availability at our Metamora, Rock Falls, or Farmington locations.

(3) What is the cheapest way to store a boat?

The most affordable way to store a boat at a professional facility is in an uncovered outdoor parking space.

This option is a great value, especially for boats that have been properly winterized and are protected with a high-quality, weather-resistant cover. You get the benefit of our facility's security (fencing, lighting, and gate access) at the lowest possible price.

(4) Is boat storage a good investment?

Yes. For most boat owners, professional storage is a smart investment in protecting a very expensive asset.

Storing your boat at a secure facility helps:

  • Prevent Weather Damage: Protects against UV fading, water damage, and snow/ice loads that can crack fiberglass and vinyl.
  • Deter Theft & Vandalism: Our secure, gated facilities are a much safer alternative to storing a boat in a driveway or on the street.
  • Stop Pest Infestations: Reduces the risk of rodents and insects making a home in your boat during the off-season.
  • Maintain Resale Value: A boat that is stored properly will stay in better condition, which directly impacts its value when you decide to sell or trade it in.

(5) How much does it cost to store an RV in storage?

Much like boat storage, the cost for RV storage is based on the vehicle's length and the type of space. RVs are categorized by length, so a 40-foot Class A will cost more than a 20-foot travel trailer.

  • Uncovered Outdoor Parking: This is the most popular and affordable choice, generally ranging from $70 to $175 per month, depending on length.
  • Covered Outdoor Parking: This provides overhead protection and typically ranges from $120 to $300 per month.
  • Indoor RV Storage: This is the premium option, offering complete protection. It is also the most expensive and can cost $200 to $500+ per month.
Our Answer: We have spaces to accommodate all classes of RVs, from pop-ups to large motorhomes. Please call us with the total length of your RV for exact pricing and availability at our facilities.

(6) How much does it cost to rent a storage unit per week?

We, like most storage facilities, rent our units on a month-to-month basis.

This is the industry standard and provides the best value for our customers. While we do not offer weekly billing, our month-to-month leases give you complete flexibility. You are never locked into a long-term contract, so you can rent for as little as one month or for as long as you need.

(7) Are pods cheaper than self-storage?

It depends on your needs, but for most storage situations, a traditional self-storage unit is significantly cheaper.

  • Portable Containers (like PODS): These are a good solution for the process of moving. Their high cost includes the convenience of delivery and transportation.
  • Self-Storage Units: If you need to store items and won't be moving them (e.g., seasonal storage, decluttering, long-term storage), a self-storage unit is almost always the more affordable option. You avoid high delivery and pickup fees and generally pay a much lower monthly rate for the same amount of space.
Our Answer: For stationary storage, our units provide a secure, accessible, and more cost-effective solution than portable containers.
